What does cloud-based actually change for an estimator?
Three things: the estimate is not trapped on one machine, two people can work a bid without emailing versions, and the price book is shared rather than personal. The last one matters most. When rates live in a desktop file, they leave with the estimator; when they live in the account, the company keeps its own history.
Does it work offline on a jobsite?
The browser tools keep your work in the browser itself, so a dropped signal mid-estimate does not lose it. But this is honestly a connected product: if you need full offline takeoff on a laptop in a basement with no service, a desktop package still fits that better. Most estimating happens at a desk, which is what this is built around.
Is my cost data safe if it is not on my computer?
Your account is yours: estimates, price book and pay applications belong to your organisation and are not shared, pooled or sold as market data. The free tools go further — they run entirely in your browser and send nothing anywhere until you choose to save to an account.
How is this different from the old desktop estimating packages?
